Maltepe Municipality setup giant ashoura cauldrons at the Maltepe Main Square and distributed ashoura to thousands of people. Mayor of Maltepe Municipality Ali Kılıç said “I hope that this ashoura cauldron that we have setup will symbolize meals that promote friendship, love and brotherhood  ”.

The giant ashoura cauldrons setup by Maltepe Municipality at the borough square ensured that thousands  of people from different cross sections  of society,  got together. In addition to Mayor of Maltepe Municipality Ali Kılıç, Republican Peoples Party Council Members Gökmen Öğüt and Hüsnü Süslü, CHP Maltepe Borough President Zeynep Babacan, Maltepe Deputy Mufti Mesut Taş, Maltepe Djemevi President  Erdinç Yılmaz, Maltepe Djemevi  elder  Metin Eycan, Istanbul Protestant Church Foundation President Timur Topuz and the district elders distributed ashoura to thousands  of residents. Eating their ashoura to three accompaniment of prayers, the public thanked Maltepe Municipality authorities for the  event.

Making a short statement after the distribution of the ashoura Mayor Kılıç was quoted as saying  “On the anniversary of Karbala, which is a stain on human history, in this holy month of Muharram , people have been feeling the  pain in their hearts for 12 days. May God never allow  anyone else to experience such pain. Our prayers are for peace and brotherhood. When we raise our hands to heaven, let our prayers end with peace and friendship. We hope that everyone who raises their hands in prayer, in our country and throughout the  Islam world, will live  in peace. I hope that this ashoura cauldron that we have setup in Maltepe Square may be a meal that leads to friendship, love, and brotherhood. May God protect  our unity and solidarity”. (03.10.2017) 
*** Republic Celebration at Büyükbakkalköy 
The  play “From Founding to Establishment, The Republic  a Love Affair” was staged at  Büyükbakkalköy district  as a part  of the  Maltepe Municipality organized 94 separate events for the celebration of the 94th anniversary of the Republic.

“I Am the Republic” events organized by Maltepe Municipality are  proceeding at full speed. As a part  of the celebrations the  play  “From Founding to Establishment, The Republic a Love Affair” was staged at  Büyükbakkalköy , İsmet Kuralkan Primary School garden for the benefit of the residents  of the district. The  play that recounts, in a poetic manner the saga of   Mustafa Kemal Ataturk’s Independence  War and the years of national struggle for freedom, was warmly received by the audience for the  use  of both its musical and poetic language. Before the  play various games were  organized for the children. There was also eye scan, and respiration and blood tests done  in the play area as well. (
